Waitrose has withdrawn a beverage from its UK store network due to potential microbiological hazards.
Customers in the Oxford area have been alerted to the recall affecting a specific oat-based drink product.
The retailer identified that a failure in temperature management during storage created conditions where the product could become contaminated and spoil.
As a result, the items may now present a safety risk if consumed.
The product subject to the recall is the Waitrose Essential Unsweetened Oat Drink, sold in one-litre bottles.
Only batches with best before dates ranging from August 14 through October 29 are affected.
The recall applies to purchases made between September 2 and September 21.
The Food Standards Agency confirmed that Waitrose is removing the implicated product from circulation.
According to the regulatory body, notices will be positioned at retail locations where the item was available to inform shoppers about the reason for the withdrawal and provide guidance on next steps.
Consumers who have purchased the product are advised against drinking it and should instead return it to the point of purchase to obtain a complete refund.
Waitrose acknowledged the situation in a published statement, expressing regret that the recall had become necessary and noting the inconvenience caused to customers.
Among the Oxfordshire locations where Waitrose operates branches that could potentially carry the affected product are the Botley Road and Headington branches in Oxford, along with outlets in London Road Headington, Abingdon, Witney, Ducklington, Wallingford, Thame, Wantage, Faringdon, Holywell, Henley-on-Thames, Banbury, and motorway service areas at Peartree and Oxford Services.
