The agricultural reality television programme Clarkson’s Farm features a prominent cast member who was reduced to near-tears during production of the upcoming season.
Jeremy Clarkson, who gained fame through his work on the motoring shows Top Gear and The Grand Tour, operates Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire, the location for the Prime Video production.
The programme has achieved considerable popularity since its debut in 2021, with five completed seasons and filming currently underway for a sixth series in the village of Chadlington, situated in the Cotswolds region.
On Friday, September 4, Clarkson organised the Hawkstone Harvest Festival event at The Farmer’s Dog public house, his venue in Oxfordshire located in proximity to Burford.
The 66-year-old entrepreneur attracted thousands of attendees to an occasion that showcased musical performances, cuisine and beverages from his Hawkstone brand.
During the gathering, Clarkson took to the stage alongside fellow broadcaster George Lamb and Andy Cato, a member of the electronic music act Groove Armada.
Lamb posed a question to the former Top Gear presenter regarding his most significant agricultural error, which elicited amusement from those present, including Kaleb Cooper, one of the stars of Clarkson’s Farm, who was observing the proceedings.
Clarkson responded with a dismissive remark directed at Cooper, prompting laughter from the assembled crowd.
The presenter subsequently elaborated on his answer, recalling an incident involving Cereals, a major agricultural trade exhibition, held at Diddly Squat.
He explained that 30,000 agricultural professionals attended the event, and he made the decision to sow barley in a field through which all visitors would need to travel.
Every farmer attending the exhibition passed the poorly maintained drilling work, and Clarkson acknowledged several shortcomings in his technique.
He neglected to calibrate the drilling equipment properly, failed to activate the fan mechanism on multiple occasions and did not maintain a straight trajectory during the operation.
According to Clarkson, this footage will feature in the forthcoming sixth season, where Cooper delivered an emotional address while close to tears.
Cooper expressed feelings of inadequacy, noting that he did not originate from an agricultural family, that fellow farmers questioned his credentials as a genuine farmer, and that Clarkson’s poor performance would reflect negatively on his own abilities.
Clarkson characterised the monologue as one of the most sincere and moving segments he had witnessed.
He admitted to feeling profound embarrassment and disclosed that he returned home and consumed 42 pints of his Hawkstone product to alleviate his distress.
Clarkson stated that he considered this incident to be his most substantial error in farming.
