The annual Cotswold Classic 10-mile road race produced historic results, with participants representing 36 running clubs spanning ages from 17 to 73 years old.
The event, organised by Witney Roadrunners and marking its 40th anniversary, recorded its second consecutive capacity turnout on Saturday, September 5.
Both the men’s and women’s course records fell during the competition.
Oxford City’s Jonathan Davies claimed victory in the men’s division, completing the course in 50 minutes and 57.9 seconds.
His performance surpassed the previous benchmark set by Steve Naylor, who had held the record for ten years, by three minutes and 36 seconds.
In the women’s category, Natasha Roebuck representing Witney Roadrunners defended her title in record-breaking fashion.
The defending champion bettered her own 2025 achievement by 48 seconds, stopping the clock at one hour, three minutes and 10.2 seconds.
Competitors commenced the race from The King’s School in Witney, proceeding through New Yatt before undertaking a circular route passing close to Ramsden, through East End and North Leigh, before returning to Witney.
The course featured 180 metres of ascent throughout its distance.
Race director Harriet Wise noted that competitors tackled a route characterised as furlulating – a term denoting challenging but enjoyable undulating terrain.
Participants had travelled from across England and Wales to take part.
The course was staffed by more than 90 marshals providing encouragement along the route.
At the summit of the event’s most demanding climb, known locally as Hillzakilla, runners were greeted by a performance from the Wood Green School Brass Band.
Competitors crossing the finish line received a specially canned edition of Little Ox Daydreamer Beer alongside a long-sleeved technical garment as recognition for their achievement.
