A proposal for nine additional dwellings has been submitted for a village in South Oxfordshire.

The application to South Oxfordshire District Council seeks approval for construction on agricultural land in Stadhampton.

The site sits adjacent to the former Newington Nurseries garden centre and would effectively expand the recently completed Newbury Hill View development by Bovis Homes.

The proposal is surrounded by three previously approved housing schemes.

Twenty-one properties have received approval for the area west of the proposed site, six to the north, and sixteen to the east at Warren View.

Combined with the current application, the total number of new homes planned for the surrounding area reaches forty-six.

The plans indicate the development would utilise the existing access point from the A329, which currently serves the twenty-one dwellings on the former Newington Nurseries site.

A landscape buffer would be established between the proposed housing and the ancient woodland situated to the south.

The application documentation states that residential development of the site is considered suitable in land use terms.

The proposed development scale could be accommodated appropriately while respecting the existing built and natural character of the area.

The documentation further notes that technical considerations regarding landscape, flooding and drainage, ecology and biodiversity, access, arboriculture and heritage present no fundamental obstacles to the principle of development.

Six objections have been recorded on the planning portal during the consultation period.

Local resident Paul Wilks from Stadhampton submitted an objection expressing strong concerns about the speculative nature of the application.

The objection stated that the development would provide no additional benefits to the village, existing residents, or future occupants of recently completed schemes at Hampton Meadows and approved developments at Warren Hill and Newells Farm.

The objection requested refusal of the proposal, citing concerns about overdevelopment, access arrangements, public transport provision, insufficient local facilities and infrastructure, flood risk, and the volume of previous applications submitted by the applicant.

Another local resident, Stephen Price, raised concerns about access arrangements and the adequacy of existing village amenities.

The objection noted that twenty-six properties are currently under construction at Warren Hill on adjacent land, and that this volume already exceeds what the village can reasonably accommodate.

Traffic congestion on the main Newington road was cited as a concern, with the single access point noted as limiting village egress options.

The planning application remains open for public consultation on the South Oxfordshire District Council website.

The consultation period concludes on September 17, with a target determination date set for October 1.
