A man has been detained by local officers in Banbury following reports of suspected retail theft.
The individual was apprehended after patrol members recognised someone matching the description of a person who had allegedly been involved in shoplifting incidents reported earlier on Sunday, August 30.
A stop and search operation resulted in officers seizing two pairs of sunglasses and a single bottle of aftershave.
The recovered merchandise was subsequently returned to the store from which it was allegedly taken.
The individual was taken into custody and detectives continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Thames Valley Police confirmed that the force handles retail theft offences as part of its core responsibilities, despite a light-hearted observation that fashion-related crimes typically fall outside their jurisdiction.
