The process of reopening a long-shuttered sports facility in West Witney is progressing following an announcement from the local authority.

Witney Town Council has announced a public consultation regarding the governance framework for West Witney Sports & Social Club.

A dedicated meeting has been scheduled to discuss how the venue should be organised and managed going forward.

The gathering will occur on Wednesday, 2nd September 2026, commencing at 6:30pm.

The venue chosen for the event is the principal assembly room at the Corn Exchange in Witney.

As internal renovation works at the clubhouse approach completion, attention has shifted toward the administrative requirements necessary to execute a lease agreement and resume operations at the facility.

Ruth Smith, who serves as both leader of Witney Town Council and the council’s designated representative concerning the club, will preside over the proceedings.

Council officials have expressed that attendance from existing club members, affiliated sports organisations and regular users of the venue would be welcome.

Those present will have the opportunity to contribute views and potentially volunteer for positions of responsibility.

The agenda will cover potential models for the club’s future governance, the specific duties associated with committee roles, director positions and trustee responsibilities, as well as the identification of individuals prepared to undertake such functions.
