A road traffic collision was reported at the Hinksey Hill interchange where the A34 meets the A423 Southern By-Pass Road on Thursday morning.
The incident caused significant disruption to traffic flow in the Oxford area.
Southbound traffic on the A34 was queued back from Hinksey Hill to a point near the Peartree Interchange.
Northbound traffic experienced delays extending towards the Marcham Interchange near Abingdon.
The ring road also saw congestion with traffic backed up beyond the Littlemore Roundabout.
According to traffic monitoring data, the A34 northbound between the A415 Marcham Road junction and the A423 Southern By-Pass Road experienced severe delays of approximately 14 minutes with traffic moving at an average speed of ten miles per hour.
The Littlemore Roundabout westbound carriageway between the A4142 Eastern By-Pass Road and the A423 Southern By-Pass Road saw delays of around nine minutes at a similar average speed of ten miles per hour.
Southbound traffic on the A34 between the A34 and A423 Southern By-Pass Road was subject to severe delays of approximately 13 minutes with an average speed of ten miles per hour.
Emergency services attended the scene at the interchange.
The collision has since been cleared and normal traffic conditions have resumed.
