Woman buying nine toilet rolls weekly divides Reddit users over habit

A question about toilet roll purchasing habits has ignited an online discussion, with some questioning whether such buying patterns are typical.

A Reddit user on the r/AskUK community asked how many toilet rolls others purchase weekly.

According to the post, the user buys a nine-pack each week during grocery shopping, even if not all rolls are needed immediately.

The user stated that she is female and lives alone, maintaining a small stockpile as part of her regular shopping routine.

She noted that this differs from pandemic-era bulk buying, describing it as simply part of her normal shopping habits.

The user mentioned that family members consider her purchasing behaviour unusual, though she attributed it to habit and routine, acknowledging that some months the expense might be challenging.

Fellow Reddit users responded with surprise at the quantity purchased.

One responder indicated that approximately one roll per week is sufficient for single-person household use.

Another questioned whether a nine-pack weekly for one person indicated either stockpiling behaviour or potential underlying health concerns requiring medical assessment.

A third commenter, also a woman living alone, stated that a nine-pack typically lasts her approximately two months.

Some respondents questioned the practicality of consuming more than one roll daily, noting that toilet paper is peeled off rather than used entirely.

Alternative explanations were offered by other users, including the possibility that the original poster uses toilet roll for makeup application or other purposes beyond standard household use.

A health-related explanation was also proposed, with one user suggesting conditions such as Crohn’s disease might account for higher usage, citing a family member with such a diagnosis as context.
