South Oxfordshire District Council has completed a substantial renovation at Thame Leisure Centre, delivering newly equipped fitness facilities and modernised amenities for visitors.

The project, financed through contributions from developers, forms part of an extensive improvement programme undertaken by the district council.

The authority’s cabinet member responsible for finance and property assets, Councillor Pieter-Paul Barker, expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that the refurbishment brings the venue up to contemporary standards and that local residents will notice the significant transformation.

The council has continued its environmental commitments at the site following last year’s installation of rooftop solar panels that provide renewable power.

Energy-efficient LED lighting has been installed throughout the building, alongside water-conserving fixtures, demonstrating the authority’s ongoing efforts to reduce carbon output and enhance sustainability at the leisure centre.

The ground floor has undergone extensive changes, with the main entrance corridor expanded and the wheelchair-accessible washroom fully updated.

Space previously used for exercise classes has been converted into a modern functional training area equipped with battle ropes, weightlifting stations, and an expansive multi-point rig suitable for group training sessions.

Adjustable LED strips provide flexible illumination for various activities and programmes.

Both male and female changing areas have been comprehensively upgraded, featuring new floor and wall tiles, shower facilities, toilets, and energy-efficient illumination.

The accessible bathroom now contains a sit-down shower, support rails, and refreshed interior finishes.

The facility operates under the Better organisation, contracted by the district council.
