A teenager has been detained by officers in an Oxfordshire town following an evening of disruptive behaviour that resulted in multiple offences.

Thames Valley Police took a 19-year-old woman into custody on Friday evening in Wantage.

The individual was charged with being drunk and disorderly, obstructing officers in their duties, and possessing Class A controlled substances.

According to a force representative, the arrest occurred as an incident response unit was attending an unrelated matter in the town’s Market Place.

During this time, the woman reportedly launched glass bottles in the direction of a police vehicle.

Officers were able to swiftly locate and manage the situation, placing the individual under arrest.

The woman now finds herself in police custody rather than continuing her evening elsewhere.

A spokesperson for the force stated that attracting law enforcement attention while engaged in unlawful activity is strongly discouraged.

Throwing objects at a clearly marked police vehicle constitutes a poor decision on its own, the representative noted, and doing so while carrying illegal drugs compounds the situation significantly.

The spokesperson added that deliberately interfering with officers responding to potentially serious incidents creates danger for the public and constitutes a criminal offence.

Those employed by the force are tasked with maintaining public safety and resolving situations as efficiently as circumstances allow.

Individuals who deliberately obstruct these efforts should anticipate consequences including detention rather than a return home.
