The search for a man suspected of involvement in a violent incident in Barton that left a victim requiring hospital treatment is continuing, according to Thames Valley Police.

The assault occurred on North Way in the Barton area of Oxford on Monday, 17 August.

Following the attack, officers issued an appeal for assistance in locating Arthur McDonagh, a 33-year-old resident of Oxford.

Authorities urged members of the public who may have information about his whereabouts to contact police directly rather than approaching him themselves.

By Tuesday, 18 August, the force confirmed that McDonagh remained sought in connection with the serious assault that took place the previous day.

Investigators noted that he had connections to the Garsington area.

Those with any details were asked to contact the police control room on 101 or submit information through the force website, quoting reference 43260426989.

Anyone spotting him was instructed to call 999 immediately without attempting direct contact.

More than a week after the incident, police confirmed on Saturday, 29 August that McDonagh had not been found and that efforts to locate him were still active.

Emergency services responded to Barton Village Road at approximately 11:10am on the day of the assault.

Officers established a cordon along North Way extending to its junction with Edgecombe Road while forensic work was carried out at the scene.

A white pickup truck sustaining damage was discovered in the roadway.

Debris including shattered glass was visible around the vehicle, and marks consistent with blood were observed on the rear right-hand side of the truck.

Accounts circulated regarding the types of weapons possibly used during the attack.

However, Thames Valley Police stated that investigators did not believe an axe, bat or machete had been employed.

The force declined to specify which weapon officers believe was actually used in the assault.

A male victim was transported to hospital where he received medical care.

His condition was described as stable.

Officers expressed gratitude to local residents for their assistance and cooperation following the incident.

Mike Rowley, a Labour councillor representing the Barton and Sandhills ward, offered his sympathies to the victim and commended the response from local policing teams.

He indicated he was maintaining contact with officers but did not anticipate receiving further information in the immediate term as their focus remained on apprehending the suspect and ensuring public safety.
