Police officers attended a welfare concern near the BMW manufacturing facility in Oxford during the early hours of Saturday, August 29.

Several officers were observed at the Eastern Bypass Road bridge, which spans Garsington Road close to a Tesco superstore and the Mini plant operated by BMW.

A local resident requested anonymity when reporting that a young woman had been sighted near the location at approximately 1:20am.

Upon returning to the scene 20 minutes later, the resident encountered a police vehicle and multiple officers positioned at the base of the bridge where the woman had been found crouching.

The resident expressed hope that the individual would receive appropriate support and assistance.

Thames Valley Police confirmed the incident involved a welfare concern and declined to elaborate further, stating that the matter had been safely resolved.

This represented at least the second such occurrence in the vicinity.

On Christmas Eve 2024, both the northbound lane of Eastern Bypass Road and the eastward carriageway of Garsington Road were closed to traffic.

At that time, Thames Valley Police indicated that the incident involved a woman and had been safely resolved with all roads subsequently reopened.
