PureGym has announced plans to establish approximately 60 new locations globally during 2026, marking a significant expansion phase for the Leeds-headquartered gym operator.

The fitness brand indicated intentions to accelerate its international growth strategy throughout the latter half of 2026, with longer-term objectives centred on developing more than 750 additional facilities across worldwide markets.

During the initial six months of the year, 17 new establishments were inaugurated, with the majority of 15 sites situated within the United Kingdom.

The company’s current portfolio comprises 728 operational locations, spanning 467 UK sites, 128 Danish establishments, 49 Swiss facilities, and 61 American branches.

Operations also extend to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates through franchise arrangements.

Alex Wood, chief executive of PureGym, addressed the company’s outlook, noting that structural conditions within the fitness sector continue to present compelling opportunities.

Consumers demonstrate growing commitment to personal health and wellness, while the proliferation of accessible and reasonably priced gym options attracts increasing numbers of individuals to regular exercise.

The organisation is additionally broadening its provision of specialised exercise zones designed exclusively for women.

Such facilities have now been implemented across 73 UK locations, with 20 further spaces introduced during the six-month period concluding at the end of June.

These dedicated training areas have been progressively rolled out over recent years, with expansion accelerating in response to what management describes as enthusiastic member response to spaces intended to enhance comfort and confidence among female users.

Financial performance during the six months ending 30 June revealed a 23 percent improvement in underlying earnings, reaching £123.6 million.

Turnover expanded by six percent to £393 million.

Total membership grew by three percent compared with the same period the previous year, attaining 2.44 million individuals.

Although statutory losses persisted, the deficit narrowed considerably to £20.7 million from £47.9 million recorded twelve months prior.

Wood confirmed that development remains on schedule, with approximately 60 new high-standard facilities anticipated across the group during 2026.

Management identifies considerable potential within current territories and the Republic of Ireland, projecting capacity for more than 750 further high-quality sites over the years ahead.
