Proceedings have commenced against a 46-year-old Oxford resident accused of carrying a spade and a garden tool with a blade in connection with an incident on a housing estate in Barton.

Michael McDonagh, whose address was listed as Cumnor Road in Filchampstead, faced charges on Saturday relating to two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place alongside a single public order offence.

His arrest came after officers issued a public appeal seeking information regarding the whereabouts of Arthur McDonagh, aged 33, with members of the public advised to avoid approaching him.

That appeal was issued in response to reports of violence on North Way, Barton, occurring on Monday, August 17, which resulted in an individual requiring hospital treatment.

The injured party was described as being in a stable condition after sustaining serious wounds.

Michael McDonagh attended High Wycombe Magistrates Court on August 24.

Court documentation indicates he faces allegations of causing harassment, alarm or distress alongside charges of possessing offensive weapons in a public setting, specifically a spade and a bladed garden implement.

The court records indicate the alleged offences occurred on August 17, with the alleged possession said to have taken place on North Way in Barton.

Conditional bail was granted to Michael McDonagh, who is scheduled to attend Oxford Crown Court on September 24 for a plea hearing and trial preparation.

Last week, officers stated that Thames Valley Police was requesting public assistance in locating Arthur McDonagh from Oxford.

He was sought in relation to a serious assault on North Way in Barton.

Investigators noted that Arthur McDonagh was known to spend time in the Garsington area.

Anyone possessing information regarding his location was asked to contact 101 or submit a report through the force website, referencing number 43260426989.

Members of the public were cautioned against confronting him directly and instead advised to dial 999 if he was spotted.

The precise circumstances surrounding events on the Barton estate on August 17 remain to be fully detailed.

Emergency services responded to Barton Village Road at approximately 11.10am following reports of the assault.

Officers established a road closure on North Way extending to its junction with Edgecombe Road while inquiries were conducted.

Throughout the day, a notable police presence was maintained, with several vehicles positioned behind barriers as the investigation progressed.

A white pickup truck displaying damage was observed stationary in the carriageway, surrounded by shattered glass, with what appeared to be blood marks visible on the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
