Police warn of fake cold caller targeting Benson village doors

A safety alert has been circulated following sightings of a bogus door-to-door salesperson in an Oxfordshire community.

Thames Valley Police released the warning after receiving accounts of an unidentified man approaching residents in the village of Benson.

Authorities indicated the individual was allegedly claiming affiliation with St John Ambulance, and investigators believe him to be engaged in unsolicited doorstep selling.

St John Ambulance operates as a network of charitable organisations predominantly established across Commonwealth nations, offering training in first aid, relevant equipment and supplies, along with medical response capabilities.

Police Community Support Officer Stephen Payne commented that reports had been received regarding an individual in the Benson locality going door-to-door while misrepresenting his connection to St John Ambulance, with authorities considering him a suspected fraudulent trader.

Members of the public were urged to maintain heightened awareness and restrict door access to familiar faces or anticipated callers displaying appropriate credentials.
