Michael Gove reportedly splits from Oxford University lecturer partner

Published on

The separation between Michael Gove and his former Oxford University partner occurred some time ago, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The couple had been living together in a west London property, with Gove having since vacated the shared accommodation.

Richard Eden, writing for the Daily Mail, first reported that the former cabinet minister and his academic partner had concluded their relationship.

No explanation for the decision has been disclosed publicly.

The pair made their initial public appearance together at The Spectator’s summer gathering in London during 2024.

Gove subsequently assumed the editorship of the magazine following his departure from parliamentary life.

Dr Salem serves as an academic and educator within Oxford’s collegiate system.

She earned her doctoral qualification at the university and currently delivers lectures on music at Oriel College, having previously held teaching positions at other Oxford institutions.

Her scholarly investigations have centred on musical and cultural matters, with her thesis exploring the commercial dimensions of French opera during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Academic records from the Battle of Ideas festival indicate that Dr Salem obtained qualifications from three distinguished institutions.

She has been instructing students in music and musicology at Oxford since 2018.

The partnership drew media scrutiny because of the considerable age gap between them, with Dr Salem believed to be in her thirties while Gove is 59 years old.

Prior to this relationship, Gove had been married to columnist Sarah Vine.

The pair announced their split in 2021 following almost twenty years together.

As of the weekend, neither individual had offered any public statement regarding the reported separation.
