Thames Valley Police have initiated an investigation following reports of clashes involving supporters of Oxford United and Cambridge United in Oxford city centre.
The altercation occurred in Frideswide Square near a Domino’s Pizza outlet.
Authorities were alerted to the incident shortly after 6:15pm on Saturday, September 19.
The confrontation took place following the match between the two clubs at the Kassam Stadium, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Police have indicated that reports of an earlier disturbance on Becket Street in Oxford may be connected to the later Frideswide Square incident.
Investigative work continues, though no arrests have been made at this stage.
Detective Constable Bryan Groves, the lead investigator, stated that efforts are underway to identify those involved in the disturbances.
He appealed for witnesses to come forward who may have observed either incident.
According to authorities, the clashes occurred in a densely populated area of the city centre with numerous members of the public present in the vicinity.
Some individuals were reportedly recording the disorder on mobile devices.
Traffic passing through the area was affected as the confrontation extended into the roadway.
Officers have expressed particular interest in obtaining mobile phone footage, dashcam recordings or any other video material that captured either incident or individuals involved before or after the disturbances.
The disorder is understood to have involved opposing supporters following the fixture between the two clubs.
The groups allegedly gathered before violence spread from Becket Street into Frideswide Square and the surrounding road area.
Those involved have been predominantly described as white male individuals wearing dark clothing, with several individuals concealing their faces.
