David Essex is set to perform a series of concerts across the United Kingdom, with an appearance in Oxford next week before concluding his current tour in the capital.
The 79-year-old entertainer announced a 21-date nationwide tour last year, scheduled for September, to mark his career in show business.
A single performance has been lined up at the New Theatre on George Street in Oxford on Monday.
This concert will serve as the second-to-last engagement on the itinerary, with the concluding event arranged for the following evening at a central London venue.
Essex first rose to prominence in the early 1970s after landing the principal role in the London staging of the musical Godspell.
Award recognition followed, leading to leading positions at the Roundhouse before a two-year run in the West End.
Throughout subsequent decades, he has established himself as a recording artist, authoring and releasing albums that have achieved multi-million unit sales internationally.
Within Britain alone, his catalogue includes twenty-three entries in the Top 30 singles chart.
Among these, the Grammy-nominated composition Rock On reached the summit of charts on both sides of the Atlantic and exceeded one million units sold.
His seasonal offering A Winter’s Tale has appeared in annual charts during the Christmas period.
He has maintained an active recording schedule into the 2010s, issuing new material such as the 2013 collection Reflections.
His involvement with screen and stage projects has also yielded contributions, including the track Silver Dream Machine from the film Silver Dream Racer, in which he took the leading role.
On the cinematic side, Essex has appeared in That’ll Be The Day and its continuation Stardust, along with Traveller and The Guvnors.
He also featured as the family patriarch in recent episodes of the BBC soap opera EastEnders.
Within theatre productions, he has featured in ELF!, Evita, the second Boogie Nights production, Footloose, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love.
He has additionally staged his own works Mutiny!
and All The Fun Of The Fair.
