A major road collision has occurred in Oxfordshire, emergency services have confirmed.
The incident took place near Yarnton on the A44.
The AA motoring organisation has reported that the highway has been shut in both directions as a result of what has been described as a serious crash.
Traffic monitoring service INRIX indicated that the closure affects the A44 Woodstock Road between Sandy Lane and the A4260 at Loop Farm roundabout.
According to their assessment, traffic in the surrounding area has been managing adequately despite the disruption.
Conservative councillor Liam Walker has provided commentary on the situation.
The carriageway remained inaccessible to vehicles throughout the incident.
Updates were limited as responders worked at the scene.
A local resident, Peter Clacey, who witnessed the aftermath, contacted the publication after passing through the area on Sunday, September 20.
He described seeing emergency services arriving as he and his partner drove past at approximately 8pm.
According to his account, debris was scattered across the road near the Turnpike Roundabout junction with Cassington Road.
Clacey reported observing three vehicles had been involved in the collision.
He described one four-by-four vehicle with a trailer appearing to have collided head-on with another car.
A third vehicle was positioned on the grass verge facing oncoming traffic.
Clacey characterised the scene as appearing severe, noting that all the automobiles had sustained substantial damage.
He expressed concern for those involved, stating that numerous people were present attempting to clear road debris.
An ambulance was observed arriving at the location as they continued on their journey.
