A cosmetic product safety alert has been issued for a hand wash refill after laboratory testing identified bacterial contamination.
The Baylis & Harding Oud, Cedar & Amber one-litre hand wash refill is being removed from sale by multiple major retailers following the detection of Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria.
This anaerobic microorganism was found in specific production batches.
The affected products carry batch codes 6210A and 6211A.
The Office for Product Safety & Standards confirmed that the product fails to meet Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 requirements.
Regulatory officials stated that contamination with this microorganism could lead to infection or adverse health effects, with heightened risk for individuals with compromised skin barriers or weakened immune systems.
Consumers have been advised to discontinue use immediately and return the product for a refund.
Batch codes are printed on the base of the pouch.
Sainsbury’s confirmed the recall details to customers, while Waitrose also communicated the withdrawal to its shoppers.
Both retailers instructed purchasers to return items to their nearest store for full reimbursement.
Both Sainsbury’s and Waitrose apologised for any inconvenience caused by the recall.
No other products from Baylis & Harding have been affected by this issue.
