A man accused of killing an elderly woman in Abingdon has made his first appearance at crown court.
Daniel Boore, 36, from Appleford Drive in Abingdon, was charged by Thames Valley Police in connection with the death of Jill Gant.
The 88-year-old victim was discovered deceased at a residence on Appleford Drive on the afternoon of Thursday, September 10.
Boore attended Oxford Crown Court on September 16.
He was dressed in grey prison clothing and entered no plea during the brief hearing.
His only contribution was confirming his identity.
Proceedings have been scheduled for November 30, when a plea and trial preparation hearing will take place.
A provisional trial date has been set for March 8 the following year, with an estimated duration of two weeks.
Boore remains in custody pending these matters.
Detective chief inspector Stuart Brangwin, the senior investigating officer in the case, stated that the force understood the incident may have unsettling effects on the local community.
With criminal proceedings now underway, he appealed to the public to refrain from speculation on digital platforms and from distributing material that could potentially compromise the case.
Abingdon North county councillor Nathan Ley expressed his condolences to the family and friends of Ms Gant during what he described as an undoubtedly distressing period.
He also requested that residents refrain from speculation, including on social networking sites, while police investigations continue.
