Police in Oxfordshire have issued renewed appeals for householders to strengthen home security measures after a series of break-ins across the region.
Thames Valley officers are encouraging residents to assess their property protection following a burglary at an empty residence on The Green in Ascott Under Wychwood.
The incident took place between 4.40pm on August 30 and 8am on the following morning.
Suspects smashed a window using a rock to gain access to the property.
PCSO Wesley Smith confirmed that additional burglaries had been reported in the surrounding area.
Two properties were targeted in Swerford, while single incidents occurred in both Little Tew and Kingham during the same week.
According to the officer, evidence suggested that in most cases the homes appeared clearly vacant at the time of the offences.
Security recommendations were subsequently shared with the community.
Households were advised to ensure both front and back doors were fully secured where locks permitted, while window locks should be activated and keys removed from doorways.
The installation of alarm systems was encouraged, with residents reminded to activate such devices whenever leaving premises.
Surveillance equipment including doorbell cameras and closed-circuit television was recommended to monitor all exterior areas, including rear aspects of properties.
The importance of community vigilance was emphasised.
Officers highlighted that active neighbourhoods represented one of the most effective measures against criminal activity.
Residents were urged to maintain awareness of neighbours, particularly those who may be elderly, vulnerable, or temporarily absent from their homes.
Any unusual behaviour or suspicious circumstances should be reported to the authorities.
