Grove Garden and Local History Club staged its 99th Summer Horticultural Show at the Old Mill Hall on School Lane.
The event took place on Saturday, September 5.
Approximately 200 entries were submitted across various categories.
These included floral displays, produce such as fruit and vegetables, handmade crafts, photographs, bakery items, preserves, and entries from young participants.
Additional attractions featured a raffle, refreshments with tea and cakes, and market stalls offering artworks, greeting cards, gardening supplies, literature, and candles.
A separate exhibition documenting the history of the Grove Summer Show was also available for visitors.
According to those responsible for organising the occasion, a healthy attendance was recorded throughout the afternoon.
Six trophies were presented during the proceedings.
Joe Bray from Appleford claimed several accolades, including the President’s Cup awarded for accumulating the most points across both the Spring and Summer Shows.
This prize was among the six pieces of silverware distributed on the day.
The Grove Parish Council trophy and a £25 voucher for the most outstanding allotment exhibit were presented by chairperson Eamonn Saunders.
Juliet Postbeschild secured these awards for the second consecutive year.
Helen O’Neill triumphed in the photography section, claiming the Vic Knight Trophy.
The Royal Horticultural Banksian Medal, presented to the exhibitor achieving the highest aggregate score in horticultural categories, was awarded to Lucy-Grace Haddrell, aged 11.
The young competitor was making her debut appearance at the show.
She became the youngest individual in Grove’s history to receive this particular honour.
A representative for the club expressed anticipation for an expanded celebration at next year’s milestone event.
In preparation for the 100th show, organisers are seeking to contact individuals who have ties to the horticultural society and its exhibitions during the 20th century, particularly those who may possess artefacts or memorabilia suitable for display.
