The meal kit delivery company HelloFresh is shutting down its Oxfordshire warehouse, resulting in hundreds of job losses.
The facility in Banbury, referred to as The Granary, will cease operations on 31 October.
The site, spanning 237,000 square feet at Chalker Way, first opened its doors just over a decade ago when HelloFresh became its inaugural tenant.
An internal review determined that consolidating operations into a single, more technologically sophisticated location would better serve the company’s future requirements.
The company determined that its Windmill site in Derby possesses capabilities that allow for increased operational complexity, a broader menu selection, and more adaptable ingredient choices.
Approximately 271 staff members have been affected by the closure, with some receiving redeployment opportunities while others have lost their positions.
A company representative indicated that support was offered to impacted workers, encompassing assistance with resume preparation, interview techniques, job fair access, and alternative roles within the organisation.
The closure announcement followed a consultation process that began earlier in the year.
The company stated that the decision prioritised long-term sustainability and operational effectiveness.
Financial pressures have mounted for the business in recent times, with revenue declining by over 11 percent during 2025 and total orders falling by 12 percent compared to the previous year.
The number of meals delivered decreased by more than 100 million units.
The company’s valuation has dropped dramatically, with shares trading 93 percent below their peak during the coronavirus pandemic when demand surged.
Last year, HelloFresh already reduced its United Kingdom workforce by 900 employees following the shutdown of its Nuneaton delivery operation.
During the health crisis, the company had expanded its headcount by 400 additional workers to manage increased consumer interest in home-delivered meal solutions.
