A proposal has been lodged with Cherwell District Council regarding the installation of backup power equipment at Bicester Police Station.
The submission comes from telecommunications provider EE and focuses on adding generation capacity to support mobile network operations during electrical failures.
The plans call for a compact diesel unit to be positioned within the current mast enclosure at the Queens Avenue facility.
This apparatus would activate automatically should the primary grid supply become unavailable, ensuring continued operation of telecommunications apparatus housed at the site.
The scheme encompasses additional reserve power solutions intended to sustain the site’s communications infrastructure through outages.
Fresh electrical connections would be laid to link the new apparatus with the present communications shelter, which would simultaneously receive internal improvements.
The telecommunications hub occupies space within the police station precincts and presently accommodates a 35-metre multi-user tower structure servicing multiple network providers.
The proposed development would not alter the mast’s dimensions or any antenna installations currently affixed to the structure.
Under the proposal, existing aerial equipment, shelters, cable management systems and electrical distribution components would be retained.
The submission forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen network infrastructure reliability and prevent service disruptions when grid power is interrupted.
