Oxford Vacmedix UK Limited, a biotechnology company originating from Oxford University, faces potential insolvency proceedings amid significant financial difficulties.

A gathering of the firm’s creditors took place on September 1 to determine whether a liquidator should be appointed for the business, which operates from premises at Oxford Science Park.

The outcome of that meeting remains undisclosed.

Documentation filed with The Gazette, the official government record, indicated the meeting was convened in accordance with Section 100 of the Insolvency Act 1986, legislation permitting the company or its creditors to propose a liquidator, with voluntary liquidation among the possible outcomes.

Founded as a university spinout in September 2012, the enterprise concentrates on creating therapeutic treatments for oncology patients.

According to information published on its digital platform, the organisation is advancing an innovative approach to immunotherapy delivery, an area that has become central to contemporary cancer management.

The treatment method harnesses the patient’s own immune system to combat malignant cells.

The company employs technology designed to amplify the capacity of vaccines and biologic medications to stimulate immune responses within the human body.

Chronological records available on its website show that pre-clinical activities commenced in March 2018, financed by a twelve and a half million dollar investment.

Subsequent clinical investigations were initiated in 2021, followed by additional capital injection in November 2024.

No further public communications were issued after December 2024.

Financial filings covering the twelve-month period concluding on December 31, 2024, disclosed creditors payable within twelve months totalling £429,363.

The accounts were compiled under the assumption of continued operations, with directors acknowledging that substantial research and development costs had generated losses since the company’s establishment, and that further operational deficits were anticipated given the early clinical phase.

The filing further stated that examination of cash flow projections for the year following sign-off had revealed the necessity for additional financing to sustain corporate activities.

According to the document, no such funding had been confirmed at the time of reporting.

Staff levels during the period averaged six workers.

Representatives for Oxford Vacmedix and the appointed liquidators, Crowe UK LLP, have been contacted for response.
