A long-established tuition provider operating from Oxford has ceased operations after almost three decades, citing escalating financial pressures as the reason for its closure.
Oxford Science Studies, also known as OXSS, functioned as an educational specialist in Oxford and had been providing instruction to GCSE, IB and A-level pupils since 1997.
The business was owned and operated by Nord Anglia Education, a company that manages 91 private educational institutions across the globe and maintains its headquarters in the United Kingdom.
The organisation has confirmed that OXSS has concluded its final revision programme.
A notification posted on the OXSS website indicated that this year’s summer programme would mark the conclusion of services, with all revision schemes, teaching activities and commercial operations terminating on August 31.
d’Overbroeck’s, situated on Banbury Road in Oxford, also falls under the Nord Anglia Education umbrella.
The announcement explained that the challenging choice had been made necessary by the mounting financial pressures associated with running revision courses and digital tuition, citing sustained cost increases over multiple years alongside a progressively unpredictable local market for educational services.
The communication stated that this outcome should not be interpreted as commentary on the dedication, expertise or standard of instruction provided by staff members and associated partners.
Over the preceding three decades, the international educational provider had instructed thousands of young individuals, preparing them for examinations and subsequent stages of their academic development.
The announcement expressed pride in OXSS’s accomplishments throughout its existence and thanked all those who had utilised the service over the years.
The statement conveyed regret that continued support for students’ academic progress could no longer be offered.
Best wishes were extended to all pupils as they progressed with their GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A Level programmes and beyond.
Nord Anglia Education continues to operate three additional educational establishments within Oxford: Oxford International College, Oxford Sixth Form College and d’Overbroeck’s.
The latter institution joined the company’s portfolio in 2021.
