McDonald’s axes Monopoly promotion in UK after 20 years

The fast food chain McDonald’s has brought an end to its Monopoly game promotion in the United Kingdom following two decades of operation.

The interactive marketing campaign, which enabled customers to collect game tokens from food items in hopes of winning prizes, was first introduced in 2006.

Menu items featured during the promotion included french fries, wraps, beverages, McFlurry desserts and additional products available at the restaurant chain’s outlets across the country.

The most recent edition of the game ran from September 10 through October 21, 2025.

Prizes on offer during the previous campaign comprised a cash prize of ÂŁ100,000, a Jet2 holiday valued at ÂŁ2,000, an LG OLED television and a Merlin Annual Pass covering four individuals.

Diners also had opportunities to win complimentary menu items such as Big Macs, Quarter Pounders, McFlurries, Apple Pies and various milkshakes.

A representative for the company stated that the popular promotion would not appear in 2026, though new initiatives were being developed.

The spokesperson noted that recent innovations had included the introduction of a new product called CARDS in March and a partnership with Xbox tied to a promotional initiative called Side Missions.

The company indicated it would continue evaluating customer preferences when planning future marketing activities.

Reaction among patrons proved divided.

Several individuals expressed disappointment at the discontinuation, with one commenter on the Reddit community r/UKfood stating that alongside changes to voucher schemes and what was described as a product-related incident, the establishment now offered insufficient incentive to visit.

Another regular customer mentioned the promotion had historically provided motivation to stop by more frequently during its run, while a third individual predicted the company would observe reduced sales figures in the coming year.

Some customers offered different perspectives.

One social media user recounted never having received any winning prize despite multiple attempts at collecting game pieces, while another offered a contrasting sentiment regarding the promotion’s conclusion.
