The motoring franchise is set to resume on screens this week with an entirely fresh presenting lineup.
Jeremy Clarkson, an Oxfordshire farmer, began his tenure as a Top Gear host during the late 1980s, at which point the BBC programme bore little resemblance to what it would eventually become.
A significant transformation occurred in 2002 when the show underwent a revival, with Clarkson and Richard Hammond taking on presenting duties, followed by James May joining the following year.

Now, approaching ten years since The Grand Tour’s debut, fresh faces have assumed presenting responsibilities, with Francis Bourgeois, James Engelsman and Thomas Holland taking over the presenting roles.
The trio arrive from social media and YouTube backgrounds, with ambitions to attract fresh audiences to the motoring format.
Bourgeois, whose birth name is Luke Nicolson, has expressed a mixture of anxiety and enthusiasm about inheriting the programme from its pioneering hosts.
The 26-year-old presenter, a qualified mechanical engineer who previously worked at Rolls-Royce, describes his passion for locomotives and automobiles as equally matched.
Both forms of transport entered his life simultaneously, he explained.
Residing in Northwest London near Willesden Junction, a bustling railway hub, while large-engined vehicles were prevalent in the nearby Harlesden area provided the initial spark for his interests.
YouTube personalities Holland and Engelsman, recognised primarily for their automotive content, admitted that assuming such prominent roles felt intimidating, though the three quickly developed a sense of comfort together.
Holland, aged 39 and originating from Canada, acknowledged the weight of expectation.
Despite the nervousness involved, he noted that the collaboration felt natural from the outset.
He and Engelsman had produced considerable automotive material over extended periods, making the production environment feel familiar.
The legacy of the programme remained a constant consideration throughout their deliberations.
Engelsman, 34, observed that each member developed individual strategies for managing the pressure.
Bourgeois apparently experienced visible nervousness, while he personally adopted the perspective that the world operates as a simulation.
The six-episode season will see the presenters explore absurd motoring-related queries across demanding international landscapes.
Audiences can anticipate ambitious automotive stunts alongside journeys to remarkable destinations spanning the United States, Malaysia and Angola.
The latest iteration of The Grand Tour becomes available on Prime Video on Friday.
