A 34-year-old man from Bicester is facing charges connected to the death of a motorcyclist in Oxfordshire more than two years ago.

The defendant appeared before High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court in early September, accused of causing death by careless driving while operating a Mercedes Sprinter van.

The victim, a 57-year-old man from Bicester, tragically died at a road junction in May 2024.

He leaves behind a grieving family who described him as a kind-hearted individual dedicated to helping others.

The accused is next scheduled to appear at Oxford Crown Court on October 1 for plea and trial preparation, during which he is expected to enter his plea.

The fatal collision occurred at the junction of Middleton Stoney Road and Empire Road.

Following the incident, the family of the deceased released a statement describing him as known for his kindness, generosity and caring nature.

The tribute described him as someone who was perpetually positive and always willing to assist others.

He was described as a devoted husband and father to a son and a cocker spaniel, both of whom held him in great affection.

The family stated they were heartbroken by their sudden loss and would cherish his memory forever.

Community members also shared their recollections of the deceased.

One witness who attended the scene shortly after the collision recalled performing CPR in a desperate attempt to save him, expressing profound sorrow at the outcome.

Another contributor who knew him through voluntary work with youth organisations described him as a man who adored his family and would be deeply missed.

Fellow volunteers remembered him as welcoming, positive and entertaining, noting that he would be fondly recalled during dog walks in the neighbourhood.

A Bicester North town councillor offered her condolences and expressed hope that lessons might be drawn from the investigation to enhance road safety measures.
