Thames Water has located a burst main pipe in Witney, with residential properties continuing to experience disrupted water supplies while restoration efforts proceed.
The utility company reported that the damaged pipe was discovered at Betty’s Meadow, near Oxford Road in Witney, impacting customers within the OX29 postcode area.
The fault was initially detected at approximately 6.50am on Tuesday, September 1, when householders began reporting either a complete absence of water or significantly reduced pressure at their taps.
Charlie Maynard, the constituency MP for Witney, indicated that he had been briefed by Thames Water, with the company anticipating that normal water service would resume by Tuesday evening.
A company statement released through the MP confirmed that investigations had successfully pinpointed the leak at Betty’s Meadow, and that repair operations were currently in progress.
To assist the affected area and expedite the return of supplies, additional network measures have been activated to sustain pressure levels and enhance reliability for customers experiencing disruptions.
The company stated that those presently without water should see their supplies return to normal by the end of the day.
Contingency measures remain in place should any additional problems emerge, including the deployment of tanker vehicles to the location to provide alternative water sources if necessary.
Support services for customers are ongoing, including provisions for those considered vulnerable.
Operational teams are maintaining vigilant monitoring of the situation, with further updates expected as more information becomes available.
