A section of road in Didcot has been closed under emergency measures following the discovery of a gas leak.
Abingdon Road is inaccessible to traffic on Tuesday morning, with the closure point situated just beyond the Noble Park turning.
The affected stretch leads toward the intersection connecting Long Wittenham and Appleford.
The gas network operator SGN is managing the closure operation.
Local representative Ian Snowdon explained that the road closure has been implemented as a safety precaution given the gas leak situation.
Workers were observed at the site during a visit by Snowdon, who spoke with those addressing the issue.
According to Snowdon, the road will not reopen during the course of Tuesday, and current indications suggest the closure will almost certainly extend through Wednesday as well.
Residents who typically use this route for their regular journeys or for transporting children to educational establishments have been advised to arrange alternative travel plans in advance, as substantial disruption is anticipated.
Snowdon confirmed that the situation would continue to be observed and that community members would receive updates once additional information regarding the expected reopening becomes available.
SGN has been contacted regarding the incident.
