A fresh public transport initiative is preparing to commence operations in the coming days, aiming to improve connectivity for workers and residents across multiple Oxfordshire communities.

The Alfred Flier bus network will officially begin services on Tuesday, September 1, with its inaugural journey departing Wantage Market Place at 8am.

The newly introduced BP1 route has been designed to link Grove Business Park and the town centre with neighbouring areas throughout the region.

Iain Cameron, serving as Mayor of Wantage, expressed enthusiasm for the development, noting that considerable effort had gone into establishing the partnership required to bring the service to fruition.

The initiative represents an important step forward in addressing local transportation requirements, creating improved access between Wantage, Grove and the commercial district.

The service will enable easier journeys for those seeking employment while delivering meaningful benefits to the wider community.

The collaborative effort involved contributions from three principal organisations.

Wantage Town Council worked alongside representatives from Grove Business Park and Oxford University Endowment Management, which contributed both funding and operational expertise to the project.

Branded vehicles have been prepared and are now prepared to commence passenger operations.

William Lawrie, who serves as head of property management at Oxford University Endowment Management Ltd, acknowledged the successful partnership with the local council in delivering the new community transport solution.

The arrangement successfully integrates Grove Business Park into the broader public transport network, addressing a longstanding gap in local infrastructure.

Jenny Hannaby, representing Oxfordshire County Council, also offered her support for the initiative.

She highlighted that financial contributions from both Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council made the vehicle purchases possible.

The resulting service will strengthen connections throughout the area and remove barriers preventing residents from reaching potential places of work.

Comprehensive scheduling information will be published via Wantage Town Council’s official online platform, allowing passengers to plan their journeys in advance of the launch date.
