Vicky McClure returns as bomb disposal operative in Trigger Point series 4

ITV’s crime thriller returns to screens for a fourth instalment, with Vicky McClure once again taking the lead role.

The series centres on Lana Washington, portrayed by McClure, who commands a Metropolitan Police unit specialising in explosive device disposal.

Prior to her current role, the character served as a military bomb disposal technician.

London becomes the backdrop for a series of catastrophic explosions, thrusting Lana’s unit into the centre of a critical investigation.

The new season introduces antagonists described as the most formidable adversaries the character has encountered, with Lana and her colleagues racing against time to identify those responsible and prevent additional loss of life.

As the investigation progresses, underlying tensions begin to surface within the operation.

Even individuals closest to Lana harbour concealed agendas.

With deadlines looming and pressures mounting, the protagonist faces her most demanding situation yet, one that tests her professional boundaries and personal resilience.

London’s future remains uncertain as events unfold.

McClure has discussed her character’s condition at the opening of the new season, explaining that Lana is attempting to manage her circumstances with therapeutic support while continuing to fulfil her professional obligations.

Despite her professional standing, the character experiences considerable internal struggle and moments of uncertainty, circumstances particularly precarious given the nature of her work where decisiveness carries life-or-death consequences.

The actress has spoken about her appreciation for the character’s courage, noting that while Lana experiences fear in certain moments, she refuses to display it outwardly, preferring to face challenges head-on rather than reveal any wavering in her abilities.

The ensemble includes McClure alongside Julie Graham as Commander Nia Quentin, along with Eric Shango, Nabil Elouahabi, Natalie Simpson, Maanuv Thiara, Kerry Godliman, Christopher Hatherall, Tom Glenister, Maisie Ayres, Chris Reilly, Tommy French, Michael Balogun, Julian Ovenden, Roderick Hill, Ian Conningham, Posy Sterling, Jonas Armstrong, Fred Pearce, Davina Moon, Sam Baker-Jones, Matt Barkley, Joshua Griffin and Katie Carlton in supporting roles.

The season premiere is scheduled for Sunday at nine o’clock on ITV 1, with the second episode airing the following evening at the same time.

Subsequent episodes will maintain this scheduling pattern and will subsequently be accessible through ITVX.
