Kevin Walls, 45, of Didcot, jailed for knife threats and assault on woman

Oxford Crown Court imposed a custodial term of three years and two weeks on Kevin Walls following his guilty pleas to multiple offences.

The 45-year-old defendant, whose address was listed as Halse Water in Didcot, received the sentence on August 28.

In addition to the prison term, Walls was disqualified from driving for four and a half years.

The most serious offences related to a sustained attack on a woman at her home in November the previous year.

Walls had pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour with a knife and to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

During the incident, he bit the victim on the leg with considerable force, punched her, and threw a dog down a staircase.

He later retrieved a knife and struck her on the head with it before making threats to stab her and stabbing a sofa cushion.

The court heard that Walls had previously been convicted of violent offences against the same woman.

He had attempted to discourage her from reporting the matter to authorities.

Judge Maria Lamb described his conduct as an appalling catalogue of offences, noting that the victim demonstrated considerable courage by agreeing to give evidence.

Walls entered additional guilty pleas in relation to dangerous driving at the Milton Interchange roundabout on September 23 the previous year.

He had operated a red Kia Sportage in a hazardous manner and subsequently refused to provide a specimen when required to do so by a traffic officer.

Further charges related to driving without a valid licence and without third party insurance on that occasion.

His criminal record also included bicycle thefts committed in Oxford during October 2024, together with several shoplifting offences in the same city during that month.

Walls additionally admitted two counts of failing to surrender to police bail at Oxford, occurring on December 5 2024 and October 10 the previous year.

He had been held in custody since November 22 the previous year.

Counsel for the defence explained that Walls sustained a traumatic brain injury in 2024 following an assault.

This injury resulted in cognitive impairment, and he reverted to using heroin extensively.

Prison-based programmes had been undertaken during his detention.

Walls had expressed a desire to cease harming others and indicated remorse for his actions.

The court was informed he struggled to recall the specifics of the offences due to his medical condition.
