The discount retailer Aldi has unveiled plans to revamp dozens of its British outlets in a major refurbishment initiative.

A sum of £300 million has been earmarked for improvements to 25 stores scattered throughout the United Kingdom.

The programme forms part of a wider effort to modernise the company’s existing estate.

Cities and towns included in the rollout comprise London, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Sunderland and Bedford, among others.

The scope of work will differ at each location, with certain branches set to receive enhancements to bakery sections, health and beauty departments and fresh produce zones.

Jonathan Neale, who serves as managing director of national real estate at the company’s British operation, explained that customer experience had driven the investment decision.

He stated that the modifications would generate additional retail space, enhance key trading areas and improve navigation throughout the stores.

The executive added that the work represented a significant commitment to the neighbourhoods where the retailer operates.

Five specific branches have been identified for physical expansion under the scheme.

These comprise outlets in Stirling, Paisley, Wollaston, Linlithgow and Lewes.

Each establishment will undergo bespoke improvements tailored to its individual requirements.

Environmental considerations have also been incorporated into the upgrade programme.

Several stores will receive energy-efficient refrigerator doors alongside systems using natural refrigerants, both designed to reduce carbon output.

The complete list of 25 branches scheduled for enhancement includes the Arndale branch in Manchester, the Barnsley Road outlet in Doncaster, the Batley Road store in Wakefield, Brackley Court in Blaby, the Bridgnorth Road location in Wollaston, Brooks Road in Lewes, the Chapel Street branch in Belper, the Cornhill Shopping Arcade store in Aberdeen, Crown Road in Enfield, Falkirk Road in Linlithgow, Grooms Alley in Wellington, Holyhead Road in Telford, the Holloway Road branch at Archway, Knollside Close in Sunderland, London Road in Blackwater, Moreland Avenue in Billingham, Old Beck Road in Harrogate, Printers Place in Paisley, Ringtail Retail Park in Burscough, Rockingham Road in Corby, Sandbach Road in Congleton, Springbank Road in Stirling, the St John Centre branch in Liverpool, Stratford Road in Hall Green and the Westville Road store in Bedford.

This investment slots into Aldi’s overarching expansion blueprint, which additionally features a £370 million allocation for establishing approximately 40 new outlets across the country during 2026.
