Thames Valley Police have announced charges against a man following an incident involving a knife in Oxford.

The individual was apprehended by officers on Cowley Road in the vicinity of Manzil Way on Monday, August 24.

Emergency services received reports regarding a man reportedly in possession of a bladed weapon in the area.

Armed personnel attended the scene where a security perimeter was established.

Officers located the individual, secured the weapon and took the person into custody.

No injuries were reported during the operation.

The 59-year-old suspect, Raymond Powell, residing in Barns Road, Oxford, appeared before authorities on Tuesday, August 25, when formal charges were filed.

He faces a single charge of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Powell has been granted unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on November 6.

Following the incident, Thames Valley Police issued a statement expressing gratitude to members of the public for their patience and cooperation throughout the operational response.

The statement acknowledged that the sight of numerous officers and vehicles may have caused concern among residents and passersby.
