Prosecutors have charged Romario Qatja, 31, from Pipkin Way in Oxford, with multiple offences stemming from events that occurred on September 13 last year.

The charges against him include attempted murder, causing serious injury through dangerous driving, affray, and wounding with intent.

The defendant entered not guilty pleas to all charges, including the alleged attempted murder of Rabar Pirot following an incident on St Clement’s.

He is one of eight men standing trial in connection with a series of related events.

The court heard testimony from Ilirjan Kika on August 27.

Kika stated that he was accompanying Qatja, whom he called Mario, along with another man named Erjon Shira on the date in question.

Kika explained that he learned Kurdish men had been searching for Qatja.

According to Kika, Qatja mentioned only that some accident had occurred, specifically a situation where he had spilled a drink on someone.

Earlier testimony revealed a physical altercation had taken place outside Hank’s Bar on Queen Street during the early hours of that same day.

Kika stated that Shira proposed assisting in resolving the matter, and Kika agreed to accompany him.

Kika described meeting a group of Kurdish men at a barber shop.

Those men indicated they wanted an apology from Qatja regarding an incident from the previous evening.

Subsequently, members of both groups made arrangements to gather at South Park.

Kika testified that only himself and Shira attended the park meeting, with Qatja absent.

He stated the Kurdish men inquired about Mario’s whereabouts, calling him a coward.

They reportedly declared they would kill him if they encountered him.

When asked about the number of people present at the park, Kika stated there were more than 50 individuals.

He described them as possessing crowbars, wooden objects, and baseball bats, which they struck against the ground to create noise.

After leaving the area with Shira, Kika stated they found Qatja seated in his vehicle on St Clement’s.

He said they urged him to depart immediately, as the group was pursuing him while shouting and threatening him.

Kika noted that those pursuing carried wooden objects, stones, and metal bars.

He stated Qatja subsequently drove away.

Under questioning, Kika confirmed he did not witness Qatja strike anyone with his automobile.

Additional defendants faced separate charges in connection with the same day.

Samyan Khdir, 21, residing at Poplar High Street in London, was charged with possessing an offensive weapon, specifically a sword, on Rectory Road.

Eyub Hussani, 25, from Warley Avenue in Dagenham, faced charges related to possessing an offensive weapon, a long wooden object, at the same location.

Gabriel Dos Santos, 28, of Richmond Road in Oxford; Arger Poleshi, 20, with no fixed address; and Armanto Tzourtzi, 24, also with no fixed address, faced affray charges.

Indrit Ndoj, 35, from St Martins Road in Oxford, and Fiqiri Noka, 27, from Mogridge Drive in Oxford, also faced affray charges.

Tzourtzi, Poleshi, Noka, Ndoj, and Dos Santos entered not guilty pleas to the affray charges.

Khdir and Hussani entered not guilty pleas to the weapon possession charges.

Proceedings continue at Oxford Crown Court.
