Banbury brewery faces liquidation with 28 jobs at risk after HMRC petition

A Cotswold-region brewery operator confronts potential closure after tax authorities initiated legal proceedings in the High Court.

The Oxfordshire Brewery and Beers, headquartered in Banbury, carries debts approaching £500,000, placing approximately 28 positions in jeopardy.

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs submitted a winding-up petition against the business during July, according to official records published in The Gazette.

The matter has been scheduled for hearing at London’s Royal Courts of Justice on September 9.

Financial filings reveal the company reported creditor obligations totalling £500,944 for the 12-month period concluding September 30, 2024.

This figure represents a substantial increase from the preceding year’s £350,783.

Documentation lodged at Companies House shows outstanding liabilities including £213,060 in taxation and national insurance commitments, alongside £65,177 owed to suppliers and £222,707 due to other creditors.

The workforce averaged 28 staff members throughout the reported period.

Ownership records indicate the business underwent significant structural changes recently, with operational control shifting from Oxfordshire Inns Ltd to CHADKP Holdings Limited at the close of 2025.

The company has additionally experienced prior attempts at dissolution, which were halted following formal objections.

Should the petition receive judicial approval, an official receiver would be appointed to manage the winding-up process and asset disposal.
