Highway authorities reported an obstruction on the A34 causing significant disruption to traffic flow ahead of the August bank holiday weekend.
The obstruction partially blocked the northbound carriageway between the Wytham turn-off and the A44 at Woodstock Road, Peartree Interchange.
Northbound motorists experienced delays of approximately four minutes between the A44 junction and the B430 at Weston on the Green, with average speeds reduced to 20 miles per hour.
The southbound direction also experienced impact, with delays of around four minutes reported between the Kidlington junction and the A420 at Botley Interchange.
Average speeds in this direction fell to approximately 20 miles per hour.
Further south, severe congestion developed on the A34 southbound carriageway between Kidlington Junction and the A420 Botley Interchange.
Delays in this section reached 21 minutes at peak, with average vehicle speeds dropping to just five miles per hour.
Traffic conditions gradually improved through the afternoon, with the obstruction subsequently cleared and normal traffic flow restored along the A34 in both directions.
