A convicted man has received a suspended prison sentence after being discovered with mobile phones while detained at a Category C prison in Oxfordshire.

Allan Anegbele, who is 30 years old and listed his address as Dagnall Street in London, was found in possession of a prohibited mobile device on two separate occasions at HMP Huntercombe, located in the vicinity of Henley.

The defendant entered guilty pleas to both charges of possessing an unauthorised mobile phone while incarcerated.

Prosecuting counsel Leandra Smith outlined the circumstances of both incidents to the court.

On January 26, a Zanco mobile phone was discovered in Anegbele’s cell.

During the search of the cell, Anegbele and his cellmate were present.

Both individuals maintained that no prohibited items were held within the accommodation.

However, Anegbele displayed visible signs of nervousness and placed his hand inside his dressing gown pocket.

The device was subsequently located and confiscated.

On February 24, officers conducted another search of his cell.

On this occasion, Anegbele was observed with his hand positioned behind his back.

He subsequently dropped the phone onto the floor, where it was seized by prison staff.

During questioning by police, Anegbele acknowledged ownership of the device and stated that it was used by multiple individuals on his wing of the prison.

The court was informed that the defendant has an extensive criminal record comprising 16 previous convictions covering 34 separate offences.

He had been released from custody on licence in June having served a 12-year prison sentence.

The nature of the original conviction was not disclosed to the court during these proceedings.

Presiding over the case, Recorder Ann Mulligan imposed a six-month custodial sentence, which was suspended for a period of 12 months.

Additionally, Anegbele was directed to perform 100 hours of unpaid work and must participate in six days of rehabilitation activity requirements.
