A countywide campaign offering complimentary examinations of electric blankets has been launched in Oxfordshire.

The programme, designed to reduce fire risks during colder months, brings together multiple agencies in a coordinated effort to protect householders.

More than a third of the blankets assessed so far this year were found to have safety defects.

The testing initiative has operated continuously for the past quarter-century, establishing itself as a cornerstone of seasonal home safety measures across the region.

Those wishing to participate can attend sessions scheduled throughout September and October at venues distributed across Oxfordshire.

September appointments begin in Thame on the 21st, followed by Rose Hill in Oxford on the 22nd, Banbury on the 23rd, Chipping Norton on the 24th, and Abingdon on the 25th.

The October series commences in Didcot on the 5th, moves to Barton and Headington on the 6th, arrives in Bicester on the 7th, continues to Witney on the 8th, and concludes in Wantage on the 9th.

Each session commences at 9am.

Advanced registration is recommended to secure a place.

Arrangements have also been made for a collection service catering to residents facing transport difficulties.

Contributors to the scheme include Oxfordshire County Council Trading Standards, the Fire Service, district authorities, the Volunteer Driver Service, Thames Valley Police, and Age UK Oxfordshire.

Participants at assessment centres receive refreshments alongside guidance materials prepared by participating organisations.

A neighbourhood officer with Thames Valley Police emphasised the importance of preparedness for the winter season.

The programme forms a component of broader collaborative activities undertaken by partnership members to address seasonal hazards.
