Former Endeavour star Shaun Evans is joining the second series of BBC crime drama This City Is Ours.
The popular Inspector Morse prequel concluded with its ninth series in March 2023, drawing millions of viewers.
Evans gained worldwide recognition for his depiction of a young Inspector Morse, a character created by Oxford writer Colin Dexter.
Dexter’s character first appeared on screen in the ITV Inspector Morse series, featuring John Thaw as the brooding detective alongside Kevin Whately.
The ITV programme Lewis, starring Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox, came next, with Endeavour serving as the concluding chapter of the trilogy from 2012 to 2023.
Since Endeavour wrapped up, Evans has pursued diverse acting projects.
He starred in true crime drama Until I Kill You alongside Anna Maxwell Martin, who has also appeared in Line of Duty, Motherland and Ludwig.
Evans also featured in ITV spy drama Betrayal, portraying John Hughes, an MI5 operative managing a shifting intelligence environment while contending with personal challenges. Romola Garai plays John’s partner Claire.
Now the former Endeavour actor is set to appear in the second series of Merseyside crime drama This City Is Ours, playing former gangster Ozzie Thompson.
The first images from the Liverpool-based drama’s second series show Evans looking unrecognisable with a freshly shaved head.
The programme, which chronicles the Kavanagh crime family’s story, is scheduled to return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this autumn.
Liverpool actor James Nelson-Joyce is back as leading gang member Michael Kavanagh, alongside Hannah Onslow as his partner Diana Williams.
The award-winning series was created and written by producer Stephen Butchard, who aimed to showcase his home city’s energy.
The first series earned BAFTA nominations for Best Drama and Leading Actor (James Nelson-Joyce) and has accumulated an average audience of 6.1 million viewers so far.
Nelson-Joyce received the Best Breakthrough Talent Award at the RTS North West Awards 2025.
The second series has been filmed at various Liverpool locations including The Old School House pub and restaurant on Lark Lane, The White Hart pub on Hope Street, The Vines pub on Lime Street, as well as spots in Heswall, Wirral.
Evans appears as former gangster Ozzie Thompson, recently released from prison, while Álvaro Morte (known from Money Heist, Immaculate, The Wheel of Time) plays Felipe Guzman.
A broadcast date for the new series has not yet been announced.
