Trans girls will be barred from joining Oxfordshire Girlguiding branches from next week.
Any transgender participants or women currently volunteering for the groups must depart by Sunday, September 6.
The organization prohibited any new transgender women or girls from joining in December, specifying that those still enrolled had until September to exit.
The move attracted significant backlash at the time.
A Girlguiding representative stated that the choice was made to ensure legal compliance and adherence to the charity’s governing documents, which determine membership criteria.
Current young members who are trans girls may remain with Girlguiding until September 6, 2026.
This timeframe gives impacted members and their families opportunity to make arrangements, get ready, obtain assistance, and determine when between now and September they wish to depart.
The organization hopes forthcoming Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance will be clear, practical and shaped by input from young people and volunteering bodies, to guarantee the wellbeing of all girls remains central.
Girlguiding operates to give girls and young women power and help build a more equitable world.
Their values and convictions remain unchanged.
Despite the prohibition on transgender women and girls, the organization maintains it is devoted to helping disadvantaged groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals, to enhance girls’ lives.
The organization verified they would forfeit charitable status should they fail to meet the guidelines.
Chief Guide Tracy Foster, speaking at her investiture in April, stated that they must champion girl-only environments and secure spaces for girls and young women, as well as for adult women.
She declined to confirm whether she personally endorsed the court’s ruling, but described the policy shift as something they were compelled to implement due to legal requirements following the Supreme Court’s decision.
Guides can be aged from four to 18, with approximately 300,000 members across Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers sections.
The organization completely overhauled its uniform across all sections this summer for the first time in three decades.
The updated attire now emphasises personal expression, a sense of belonging and self-assurance.
The fresh range also includes relaxed regulations, with participants only required to wear a top at gatherings and activities for increased comfort.
Oxfordshire Girlguiding branches are not the only venues excluding transgender women, as Oxford University’s women’s rowing squad announced in May that they have barred transgender females from competing.
The Equality Act 2010 safeguards individuals undergoing, planning to undergo, or who have undergone gender reassignment from unfair treatment.
Oxfordshire’s school guidelines specifically designate gender reassignment as a protected characteristic and mandate that schools must not discriminate.
