A motorcyclist carrying a knife was dislodged from his vehicle and taken into custody following a rapid pursuit through Banbury by law enforcement officers.

Thames Valley Police revealed that a person riding a Surron electric motorcycle drew the attention of the roads policing unit due to hazardous riding through the centre of Banbury.

A pursuit ensued with officers on motorcycles until the cyclist was assisted off his machine by an unmarked police vehicle.

Authorities stated the rider was subsequently detained on suspicion of being in possession of a blade in a public place, dangerous driving, failing to stop when requested by police and operating a vehicle without valid licence or insurance cover.

Police distributed a modified photograph depicting the moment the rider was apprehended and stated: Remember – real life isn’t a video game

A force representative commented: There is a belief that police will not chase electric motorcycles or riders wearing balaclavas without helmets.

This is untrue.

Where cyclists are engaged in criminal activity or endangering the public through their riding behaviour, we will respond with decisive measures and remove them from their vehicles when it is safe to do so.

Bear in mind that real life differs from a video game – there are no second chances if you make an error.

This intervention formed part of a road safety initiative targeting the unauthorised use of Surrons and comparable two-wheeled vehicles in Banbury.

Beyond detaining the motorcyclist, authorities confiscated twelve electric bicycles or motorcycles, apprehended two additional riders and seized a vehicle displaying cloned registration plates.
