A neighbourhood gathering has boosted backing for an environmental initiative in Oxford.

The celebration took place at Denny Gardens in Littlemore during June, drawing approximately 30 participants spanning multiple generations to engage in horticultural tasks and sample pizzas prepared in a borrowed outdoor oven.

The scheme receives backing from Oxfordshire Community Land Trust.

Attendees contributed to filling containers with soil, establishing climbing beans and brassica crops, and participated in constructing insect habitats and decorating an outdoor dining surface.

A raspberry cane was also introduced, representing the inaugural planting within the organisation’s recently established shared growing area.

Representatives from local parish and municipal authorities were present, contributing tools and assisting with preparations for the occasion.

The gathering generated increased enthusiasm for the initiative, with an additional cultivator taking on a plot and prospective helpers making contact.

A fresh horticultural collective convenes fortnightly on Tuesday mornings between 10am and midday, with forthcoming meetings scheduled for September 8th and 22nd.

Sarah Flood has been appointed to the role of Finance Assistant at OCLT.

She is finding satisfaction in adjusting to her position and anticipates contributing support to OCLT in various capacities.

Drawing upon three decades of involvement across co-operative ventures, charitable organisations, and social enterprises, she contributes extensive expertise to the staff.

OCLT is additionally considering the formation of a Green Spaces Group aimed at bolstering current schemes such as Denny Gardens while also identifying and developing additional neglected sites across Oxford and its surrounding region.

The collective is collecting indications of interest and welcomes enquiries from individuals eager to participate.
