A garden at a residential home in Oxford has been completely revamped following a volunteer effort.

Nineteen helpers from AD Instruments, a global technology firm whose British base is in Abingdon, dedicated a day to MHA Brookfield, joining forces with inhabitants and personnel to enhance the exterior area.

Victoria Davidson, the home’s activities coordinator, explained that the home was contacted by Mel Tiley, who serves as senior philanthropy manager for MHA.

Colleagues from AD Instruments originated from different global locations, including Germany and New Zealand.

The volunteers were divided into two groups, with some colouring large rolls of plastic material arranged to form a sheltered covering.

The remaining helpers trimmed hedges, elevated planting beds and carried out various horticultural tasks.

They thoroughly enjoyed conversing with the residents and described the experience as calming.

The residents equally appreciated the visitors and the occasion proved to be thoroughly enjoyable for everyone involved.

The engagement formed part of AD Instruments’ Closed for Good programme, which temporarily halts standard business activities to enable employees to assist local communities.

Mel Tiley, senior philanthropy manager at MHA, noted that given MHA Brookfield’s proximity, the partnership made logical sense and after several months of communication, they managed to facilitate a wonderful day where volunteers gardened, decorated and interacted with residents.

The day proved deeply emotional.
