Years pulls all dog food following reports of eye issues in pets
The pet food label Years has issued an urgent recall after receiving reports of sudden ocular problems in dogs.
The subscription-based company has halted all subscriptions and withdrawn its fresh meals after more than 50 canines displayed symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis sicca, commonly referred to as dry eye, which left some animals with severely impaired vision.
Numerous cases were reported after August 12 and appeared connected to an ingredient added to the food earlier this year, specifically buckwheat.
Years has initiated a formal inquiry working alongside customers, veterinary experts and independent specialists.
Healthcare regulators warn parents to avoid rectal catheters for infants
Medical authorities have issued a do not use alert for a medical device claimed to help babies with digestive problems.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency released a Device Safety Information notice on Tuesday, August 18, warning parents about administering rectal catheters to their babies.
These devices, available without prescription in shops and online, are used by some parents and carers to alleviate infant colic, constipation and trapped wind.
According to Dr Alison Cave, MHRA chief safety officer, digestive discomfort and colic can be upsetting for infants and families, however there is insufficient clinical evidence to confirm the safety and efficacy of rectal catheters in babies.
Parents and carers were advised to consult a healthcare professional and follow NHS recommendations if they have concerns about their baby.
Supermarket recalls every UK shopper should be aware of
Food safety alerts have triggered several product withdrawals at major retailers including Waitrose and Tesco, and consumers are being reminded to check whether they have purchased any affected items.
Customers who have bought the recalled products should not consume them, regardless of whether they appear normal in appearance or smell.
Seeds recall
A.Vogel Ltd is withdrawing Rapunzel bioSnacky Das Original Red Clover Seeds for Sprouts and Seedlings due to contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli.
Symptoms may include severe diarrhoea, stomach cramps and occasionally haemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition affecting the kidneys that can prove fatal.
The affected items are 30g packages bearing batch code 11293 with a best before date of December 2028.
Home Bargains recall
Snacks sold at Home Bargains have been recalled over a possible health risk.
ASR Solutions Ltd has withdrawn Lays Sour Cream & Dill Crisps sold at Home Bargains outlets in the UK because of a labelling mistake.
The crisps contain milk and wheat, yet these allergens are not declared on the packaging, posing a potential risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to these ingredients.
The affected packets weigh 125g and have best before dates extending to and including October 31.
Chocolate recall
Several chocolate products sold across the UK have been taken off shelves due to health concerns.
Bon Bons Wholesale Ltd has recalled various chocolate items, instructing retailers to remove them from sale, while the Food Standards Agency has advised customers not to consume them.
The products have been recalled as they may contain milk and soya that are not indicated on the label, creating a potential health risk for those with allergies.

Gü recall
Customers shopping at Tesco and Waitrose have received a do not eat alert after a Gü dessert was recalled.
The Gü Double Sea Salted Caramel Frozen Dessert, available at Tesco and Waitrose, has been withdrawn from sale as it may contain undeclared hazelnuts and soya.
The dessert therefore poses a health risk to anyone with a nut or soya allergy.
The affected item has lot number 126135 and a best before date of June 30, 2027.
