It is claimed in a biography about the footballer and his wife that the then Prince Charles was extremely angry after the couple received an invitation to a celebration at the royal residence.
The account appears in Alison Boshoff’s Brand Beckham and has been covered by the Express newspaper.
The former heir to the throne was said to have been left furious when pictures surfaced of Harper Beckham’s sixth birthday party held at the London royal home in July 2017.
The couple, who reside in Oxfordshire, attended after their daughter was asked to a gathering in Prince Andrew’s private quarters at the palace.
The invitation was reportedly set up through the Prince’s former spouse Sarah Ferguson.
The footballer subsequently posted images from the event on social media, accompanied by birthday wishes for his daughter.
The photographs depicted Harper with companions both outdoors and indoors at the palace, with Princess Eugenie also visible alongside the children.
The book states the posts drew criticism from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s former communications chief Dickie Arbiter, who suggested the family had no business being there and questioned whether the venue was being treated as an attraction.
He observed that it undermines the significance of the location and questioned why the Beckhams received such preferential treatment.
A palace source is said to have described the social media activity as a clear violation of established rules and indicated that the then Prince Charles was extremely upset, suggesting this would worsen existing tensions between the brothers.
The source also noted that photography is strictly prohibited in the palace courtyard.
Another remark attributed to the source was that Prince William would be displeased.
The account suggests Ferguson only managed to secure the invitation because the late monarch was spending the summer in Scotland.
The footballer later commented on the situation online, clarifying that this was not the palace opening its gates for a party but rather a small gathering where his family and other attendees were personally invited, describing it as a lovely occasion for his mother, daughter and a handful of school friends.
He stated they felt privileged to attend the charming tea party.
The former pop star, who was travelling for work commitments, also posted an image of Harper in a Disney frozen costume, describing her as their birthday princess.
The alleged disagreement occurred some years before the footballer received his knighthood from the monarch.
In November 2025, the former England captain was honoured for his contributions to sport and charitable work, with his wife receiving the title associated with his knighthood.
The monarch, who also owns Highgrove House in the nearby Cotswolds region, has since been photographed with the football legend on multiple occasions as he has become increasingly involved in supporting royal charitable ventures.
