A bakery business in Banbury has been placed on the market after its owners announced the closure of their family enterprise, expressing deep sorrow over the situation.
Tess’ Brilliant Bakes on Parsons Street in Banbury launched three and a half years ago after initially operating as a mail-order cake company and home-based events catering service.
Despite attracting a loyal customer base, the operators revealed they had no choice but to cease trading at the physical premises due to mounting financial challenges.
A message posted for patrons stated that reaching this conclusion had required considerable soul-searching, but circumstances had forced them to shut down the café permanently.
The message acknowledged the team’s sustained efforts over the past three and a half years to maintain operations, yet emphasised that earning a sustainable income had become unfeasible. It noted that accumulating debts had reached a point where continuation was no longer possible. The owners described their emotional attachment to the venture, characterising it as something they had nurtured with great dedication and expressing how difficult it would be to relinquish.
The commercial premises have now been advertised for sale through estate agency Wild Property, with the character-filled shop offered to prospective buyers at an annual rental commencing at £12,000.
While currently functioning as a café, the listing specifies that the property spans the ground level and two upper storeys, positioning it as appropriate for diverse commercial purposes. The location on the pedestrianised Parsons Street was highlighted as particularly suited to independent enterprises.
The proprietor confirmed that Tess’s Bakes would continue attending Banbury market on a regular basis and expressed gratitude for the encouragement and affection received throughout the years.
